MOVE INCREASES CUSTOMER SAVINGS: OFFICE PRODUCTS BUYING GROUPS UNITE TO FORM $650 MILLION BUYING FORCE

HOOVER, Ala., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Two groups of independent office products dealers have combined forces to form one of the nation's largest office products buying groups, a move that will strengthen the more than 200 businesses involved and pass additional savings on to their customers.
Effective Jan. 1, the West Coast-based TOPP, The Office Products People, will join Office Network, based in Hoover, creating a $650 million buying force.
"This union is a tremendous opportunity for the members of these two groups and their customers," explained Bill Haas, president of Office Network. One of the reasons for this is the group's increased buying power.
According to Haas: "Office Network is now a very significant buying force within the office products industry. This will enable members to offer office products at lower prices to their customers than the two groups could achieve separately. The savings potential for our customers is endless."
The ability to provide these savings is essential to the economic well-being of independent office products dealerships in the current marketplace.
"Since the national discount chains entered the marketplace, price has been the motivating factor among customers. With Office Network, our dealers can be competitive on price while still offering the same experienced and knowledgeable service to their customers," explained Pete Sloan, marketing director for the new group and former member of TOPP.
In addition to knowledgeable, experienced sales help, Office Network members also offer complimentary services that save their customers time and money, such as free delivery.
Besides product savings, Office Network members will share marketing efforts, including public relations, advertising and creation of promotional materials. Joint-marketing efforts will be headed by Sloan on the West Coast.
TOPP, which has members in seven western states, and Office Network, which is represented in 31 states, will officially join under the latter group's name, with 215 members in 265 locations throughout 33 states.
Based in Hoover, Office Network headquarters will serve as the central order center for all its members.
