 MOTOROLA WINS OVERWHELMING THIRD-PARTY SUPPORT
 FOR INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM BOARD
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola's High Performance Microprocessor Division today announced that several of its top third- party tools vendors have rushed to support the Integrated Development Platform (IDP) board, announced in September. The IDP is a low-cost evaluation platform for both hardware and software development of 68000- based products. The IDP offers a comprehensive environment allowing hardware and software developers to work concurrently and thus speed their products to market.
To date, 13 third-party developers have ported their tools to Motorola's IDP. The developers are compiler and real-time operating system vendors Applied Microsystems, BSO/Tasking, Byte-BOS, Diab Data, Emerge Systems, Integrated Systems Inc., Intermetrics, JMI Software Consultants Inc., Microware, Production Languages Corporation, Sierra Systems, Software Development Systems and U.S. Software Corp.
"We are confident that this roster of esteemed vendors supporting the IDP will ensure that embedded systems designers get the widest range of development tools possible," said Jim Reinhart, Motorola's manager of M68000 marketing and applications. "This industry endorsement reflects Motorola's continued effort to build mutually beneficial partnerships with our third party vendors."
Using the supporting compilers, developers of virtually any embedded application will see a decrease in the overall development production time. Real-time operating systems also add value to any time-sensitive, embedded applications such as robotics, industrial control and data acquisition.
The IDP, together with its supporting tools, can be used for developing virtually any 68000-based design. To begin evaluating both the processor and tools, the IDP requires only a power supply and an RS-232 ASCII terminal or host system. Customers can quickly download their code using an optional Ethernet board attached to one of the five I/O expansion slots. These features enable users to quickly review and test their various compilers, real-time operating systems and other support tools, prior to selecting a microprocessor and associated tools for a new application.
Having 1991 worldwide sales exceeding $3.6 billion, Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector is the largest U.S.-based broad line supplier of semiconductors, with a balanced portfolio of more than 50,000 devices. Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of electronic equipment, systems, components, and services for global markets. Products include two-way radios, pagers and telepoint systems, cellular telephone systems, semiconductors, defense and aerospace electronics, automotive and industrial electronic equipment, computers, data communications, and information processing and handling equipment.
Motorola was a winner of the first Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1988, in recognition of its superior company-wide quality management process.
