Memory Technologies Group of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that several products powered by Motorola's 68000 microprocessors were named among the best products of 1991 by BusinessWeek, Fortune and Time magazines.
BusinessWeek (Jan. 13), Fortune (Dec. 2) and Time (Jan. 6) named Apple Computer, Inc.'s PowerBook Personal Computers among the year's most innovative products. Time noted that "no large electronics company has set a higher standard for product design than Apple," and that in addition to being practical, the PowerBook "looks more sexy than wholesome." The PowerBook 100 features a 16-MHz Motorola 68000 microprocessor; the PowerBook 140 features a 16-MHz 68030; and the PowerBook 170 incorporates both a 25-MHz 68030 and a 25-MHz 68882 microprocessor. Prices of the PowerBooks range from $2,299 to $4,599.
The TRIMPAK Global Positioning System from Trimble Navigation, Ltd., was lauded by BusinessWeek as a "best product" for its performance during last year's Gulf War, when U.S. troops used the TRIMPAK to determine their exact geographic location in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. The TRIMPAK is powered by a Motorola 16-MHz 68000 microprocessor. Trimble designs, manufactures and markets electronic instruments and systems for determining precise geographic locations. Trimble's navigational systems are also used by firefighters, navigators, pilots and surveyors.
"Motorola salutes Apple and Trimble on their outstanding product designs," said Jim Reinhart, manager, M68000 marketing and applications, Motorola, Inc. "We are proud to have played a part in their respective successes by providing the microprocessors for these products, and look forward to future collaborations with Trimble and Apple."

Products include two-way radios, pagers, cellular telephone systems, semiconductors, defense and aerospace electronics, automotive and industrial electronic equipment, computers, data communications and information processing and handling equipment.
