MOTOROLA ANNOUNCE THIRD-PARTY SUPPORT FROM EYRING CORP.; EYRING PORTS PXROM ENVIRONMENT TO MOTOROLA'S IDP BOARD

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola's High Performance Microprocessor Division (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Eyring Corporation has ported its PXROM(tm) Porting Environment to the Motorola Integrated Development Platform (IDP) board. The IDP is a low-cost evaluation platform for both hardware and software development of 68000-based products. The IDP provides a comprehensive environment allowing hardware and software developers to work concurrently and thereby speed their products to market.
Eyring joins a long list of vendors that have lined up to support the IDP, including compiler and real-time operating system vendors Applied Microsystems, BSO/Tasking, Byte-BOS, Diab Data, Emerge Systems, Integrated Systems Inc., Intermetrics, JMI Software Consultants Inc., Microtec Research, Microware, Production Languages Corporation, Sierra Systems, Software Development Systems and U.S. Software Corp.
According to Fred Stotz, Motorola's M68000 third-party manager, "Motorola's IDP board, coupled with Eyring's PXROM Porting Environment, provides designers with a highly flexible real-time development environment. By using the IDP with PXROM, developers can dramatically reduce overall development time and associated costs."
The PXROM Porting Environment is fully integrated and allows developers to configure PDOS(tm) modules for system architectures ranging from a single processor running an individual task to a multitasking, multiprocessor system with networking and mass storage devices. Once the application is developed, run-time licensing is required for only the modules used, thereby reducing the run-time license cost of price-sensitive embedded products.
The IDP, together with its supporting tools such as the PXROM environment, can be used to develop virtually any 680x0-based design. To begin evaluating both the processor and tools, the IDP requires only a power supply and an RS-232 ASCII terminal or host system. Customers can quickly download their code using an optional Ethernet board attached to one of the five I/O expansion slots. These features enable users to quickly review and test their various compilers, real-time operating systems and other support tools prior to selecting a microprocessor and associated tools for a new application.
Having 1992 worldwide sales exceeding $4.4 billion, Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector is the largest U.S.-based broad line supplier of semiconductors, with a balanced portfolio of more than 50,000 devices. Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of electronic equipment, systems, components and services for global markets. Products include two-way radios, pagers and telepoint systems, cellular telephone systems, semiconductors, defense and aerospace electronics, automotive and industrial electronic equipment, computers, data communications, and information processing and handling equipment.
Motorola was winner of the first Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1988, in recognition of its superior company-wide quality management process.
