BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today announced an agreement with Sprint International that will connect Sprint's electronic mail system, SprintMail, with Motorola's new wireless messaging network called EMBARC (Electronic Mail Broadcast to A Roaming Computer).
The agreement enables Sprint's 350,000 electronic mail customers to send information to wireless, mobile computer users, reaching one or thousands of people simultaneously. With EMBARC, the information will be delivered almost anywhere -- whether recipients are at their desks, in an airport or in an office building, according to Steve Brendle, vice president and general manager of EMBARC Communication Services Inc., a part of Motorola's Wireless Data Group.
"Many of our customers have international branch offices and they deal with numerous suppliers, trading partners and customers around the world," stated Alan Rossi, Sprint vice president and general manager, International Value-Added Services. "EMBARC's one-way wireless messaging capabilities is another way for them to contact any or all of those business partners in the United States simultaneously. Multiple inventory updates, pricebook changes, client file transfers and other important information transfers can be accomplished quickly and cost effectively with EMBARC," Rossi said.
Multi-point messages can be sent from anywhere in the world over Sprint Mail to EMBARC recipients throughout North America. The wireless one-way service is currently available in more than 200 cities in the United States. Operations in Canada will begin by the end of 1992, and EMBARC will offer international service by the end of 1995.
