MOTOROLA AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS ANNOUNCE NEW DEVELOPMENT TOOLS FOR THE 68000 FAMILY

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola's (NYSE: MOT) High Performance Microprocessor Division and Software Development Systems, a leading supplier of embedded software development tools, today announced a new code optimizer for the C compiler contained in Software Development Systems' CrossCode C package as well as an all new Windows- based source-level debugging tool -- SingleStep. Together, CrossCode C and SingleStep turn a user's PC into a complete development station, allowing them to compile and remotely debug applications for all 68000 Family microprocessors.
"Software Development Systems' comprehensive toolset provides users with a highly integrated and competitive environment for 68000-based development," said Fred Stotz, M68000 Tools Program Manager for Motorola. "With the introduction of the Windows-based debugger, Software Development Systems is bringing their products to the forefront of the industry."
The latest release of CrossCode C is a highly optimized, complete compiler package that offers several key features such as:
 -- Increased optimization
 -- Reliability
-- Support for fully integrated C++
-- Support for all Motorola 68000 Family microprocessors
 -- Source-level symbolic debugging
-- No limitations to the number of symbols in program, size of
source files or size of C function.
Using CrossCode C with SingleStep Windows-based debugger, developers can turn their PC into a complete 68000 development environment. SingleStep is a true Windows applications, therefore the interface has the same look and feel as other Windows applications, contributing to its ease of use and cutting developers' learning curve. A handful of menus and icons control the entire debugging session, and users are able to customize their screens to contain only the features they need.
SingleStep debugs all microprocessors in the 68000 Family and contains a set of target monitors supporting more than 36 commercially available VME Eurocard and stand-alone boards. Also included in SingleStep is the SingleStep simulator, which simulates the entire 68000 Family on the host machine.
