MOTOROLA AND DIAB DATA ANNOUNCE AVAILABILITY OF HIGHLY OPTIMIZED COMPILERS FOR THE 68000 FAMILY

AUSTIN, Texas, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola's (NYSE: MOT) High Performance Microprocessor Division and Diab Data, Inc., a leading supplier of UNIX Native Compilers, today announced the availability of new 68000-based compilers targeting Motorola's embedded market. The new C, C++ and FORTRAN 77 compilers -- D-CC/68K, D-C++/68K and D-F77/68K -- are based on Diab Data's high performance retargetable compiler technology and include new features that support real-time embedded design and application development.
Among the new features available with the new compilers is support for multiple object formats, including IEEE.695 plus extensions, COFF and Motorola S-records. This support allows the compilers to interface with several remote source-level debuggers from other compiler and emulator vendors. Compile-time options tailored to the embedded market such as size optimization have also been added to reduce the executable code memory requirements.
"Motorola's 68000 Family Embedded-design customers using Diab's highly-optimized environment will experience substantial gains in their code execution, reducing their overall design time," said Fred Stotz, Motorola's manager of M68000 Tools Program. "The new tools offer embedded designers a high-performance embedded compilation package."
Using the new Diab Data compilers, embedded systems designers can insert strings and "const" data in the text section along with the code and treat all memory references as volatile, which prevents the compiler from optimizing away access to hardware ports. The compiler can also optionally insert code, ensuring that the stack does not grow beyond its boundaries.
Diab Data will supply sample source code with the compilers for various functions including start-up code and replacement functions for the operating system routines which can be used in a stand-alone environment. Diab Data will also supply sample source code for a link command file which demonstrates how to specify where code and data should be allocated in memory. During 1993, Diab Data also plans to provide additional products tailored to the embedded market, such as multi-tasking, remote source-level debuggers.
Diab Data, Inc. whose Advanced Compiler Group is located in Foster City, Calif., has been breaking new ground in highly-optimizing compiler technology since 1986. Diab Data, Inc. is a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of Diab Data AB, a Groupe Bull company specializing in real- time, multi-processor UNIX systems, with $50 million in annual sales.
