MOTOROLA, NORTHERN TELECOM MAKE SALES AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

 RICHARDSON, Texas, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Northern Telecom today announced that cellular infrastructure systems sales and service activities within the joint venture, MOTOROLA NORTEL Communications Co., will return to the parent companies. The two companies also announced revised OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and development agreements that will enable each of them to sell integrated Motorola-Northern Telecom systems in worldwide markets that use American cellular standards.
 Under the agreements, most MOTOROLA NORTEL employees will be re- employed by the parent companies. A senior executive of each company will remain on the MOTOROLA NORTEL board. The partnership will monitor the ongoing joint development of integrated products and will continue to promote the proposed cellular network A+ interface standard.
 Each company will continue the worldwide delivery of cellular systems based on its own technology and products. In addition, each company plans to deliver later this year an analog system based on Northern Telecom switching and Motorola radio frequency technology. Next year they plan to integrate Northern Telecom's DualMode TDMA radio with Motorola's linear power amplifier. Also planned is a test of an integrated digital CDMA cellular system, expected for commercial delivery to operators in 1995. This system will consist of Motorola's new SC(TM) 9600 base station and Northern Telecom's MTX cellular switches.

Products include two-way radios, pagers, personal communications systems, cellular telephones and systems, defense and aerospace electronics, automotive and industrial electronics, computers, data communications and information processing and handling equipment.
