MOTOROLA'S 33-MHZ 68040 MICROPROCESSOR POWERS THE RADIUS ROCKET 33
AUSTIN, Texas, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Microprocessor and Memory Technologies Group of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced that its 33-MHZ 68040 microprocessor powers the new Radius Rocket 33 accelerator board. The Rocket 33, Radius' fastest accelerator board, is targeted for Macintosh II owners to perform advanced computational and graphics-intensive applications.
"We're pleased to see Radius quickly harness the power of the 33-MHz 68040 to deliver workstation-class performance to its desktop customers," said Jim Reinhart, Motorola's manager, 68000 marketing and applications.
Motorola's 33-MHz 68040 combines increased integer performance with the functionality of the 25-MHz 68040 to deliver up to 29 million instructions per second (MIPS). The most advanced 68000 microprocessor offered by Motorola, the 33-MHz 68040 is designed for high throughput, workstation level applications. The microprocessor matches or outperforms CISC and RISC rivals operating at similar clock speeds.
"Motorola's 68040 microprocessors combine power and economy allowing us to offer a full range of price/performance solutions," said Ed Colligan, Radius general manager, Macintosh business unit.
In addition to the Rocket 33, the Rocket family of accelerator boards includes the original 25-MHz 68040-based Rocket and the Rocket 25i, which is powered by Motorola's low-cost 68040 microprocessor, the 68LC040.
Rocket 33 will cost $2,499 and be available in late March. It will include Rocketware 1.3 and a one year warranty.
