MOTORING: Renault's special edition sails into top place; DRIVE TIME.


RENAULT has launched a special edition of the Espace and Grand Espace PV to mark the first ever round-the-world race for catamarans.

The French company is an official sponsor of the Race of the Millennium which begins from Barcelona on New Years Eve.

The winner is expected to cross the line in Marseilles in early March, 2002, having circumnavigated the globe via Gibraltar, the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin in Australia, the Cook Straits between the two islands of New Zealand, Antarctica and Cape Horn in South America.

The two Espace models will be based on the Expression trim level which has over pounds 1,400 of extra equipment as well as a marine themed interior and special badging

On sale now, prices for the Espace start at pounds 22,350.

The Espace is the second-best selling MPV in the UK with 11.2 per cent of the market in 2000, having sold 3,995 units.
