MOTHERS WORK, INC. REPORTS DECEMBER SALES

 PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Mothers Work, Inc. (NASDAQ: MWRK) today announced that net sales for the month of December 1993 increased 94.9 percent to approximately $4.97 million from $2.55 million reported for the month of December 1992.
 For the December 1993 period, comparable store sales increased 5.9 percent (based on 58 stores) versus a comparable store sales increase of 11.2 percent for the December 1992 period (based on 39 stores).
 Rebecca Matthias, president and chief operating officer of Mothers Work, Inc., noted, "We are very gratified by our sales for December. This is a validation of our Real Time Retailing(TM) strategy of using our vertical integration to develop and offer the highest quality merchandise, in the most up-to the second fashions, at price points that represent real value to the consumer. Our strategy, coupled with our improved fashion statement and holiday gift-shopping, gave us a record month."
 Mothers Work is a leading specialty retailer of upscale maternity clothing. It currently has 113 stores located primarily in upscale regional malls across the country, and it manufactures most of its full range of career, casual and special occasion maternity wear at its Philadelphia headquarters utilizing its Real Time Retailing(TM) quick response process. The Company operates 70 Mothers Work stores, 32 Mimi Maternity stores and 11 outlet stores and just agreed to acquire The Page Boy Company, Inc. which operates 22 upscale maternity stores throughout the U.S.
