MORRISON KNUDSEN TO HOST NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SYMPOSIUM
BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corp. (MK) (NYSE: MRN) announced today that MK will host a symposium for the National Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (NCATT) at MK's world headquarters in Boise on Oct. 13. The symposium will focus on "A National Perspective on Development of Transportation Technology" and will include remarks by Sen. Steve Symms, R-Idaho; Brian Clymer, chief administrator of the Federal Transit Administration; and Robert Martinez, associate deputy secretary of the Department of Transportation.
Based at the University of Idaho, NCATT was established by the U.S. Congress and conducts industry-driven research and development of emerging transportation technologies. An additional NCATT focus is defense conversion, the retraining of engineers from the defense and aerospace industries.
Morrison Knudsen is an industry partner with the University of Idaho in conducting mass transit research, and recently signed agreements with two prominent aerospace firms, Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. and Hughes Aircraft Co., to develop high technology, mass transit products.
"This conference underscores MK's commitment to develop and produce first-class, high-tech transit systems for America and the global market," said William J. Agee, MK chairman and chief executive officer. "We're leading America back into rail and transit, and we intend to remain out front." Agee will open the one-day event, which is the first national NCATT conference.
The symposium will include workshops on Mass Transit, Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems, and Electric-Hybrid Vehicles, and will feature prototypes of advanced technology vehicles.
