BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corp. (MK) (NYSE: MRN) today announced a partnership with Torque Sociedade Anonima to manufacture locomotives in Brazil using new and recycled components.
"MK is aware of the substantial long-term growth potential in the rail industry throughout South America and that is precisely the reason we purchased a rail manufacturing facility in Buenos Aires, Argentina, earlier this year," said William J. Agee, MK's chairman and chief executive officer. "Our agreement with Torque further establishes MK's strong commitment to the rail transportation industry."
Torque is a privately held company active in heavy fabrication, large-capacity crane manufacturing and the construction of river boats and barges. The company, headquartered in Araras, Brazil, employs 1,300 people at its 1.5 million square-foot manufacturing facilities.
Under the terms of the partnership, MK will provide technical support that will permit Torque to refabricate, assemble and test locomotives at its manufacturing facilities in Brazil. MK also will be the exclusive supplier of all necessary specialty parts required for the assembly of the locomotives.
Morrison Knudsen Corp. serves the world's construction, transportation, environmental, industrial and power markets as an engineer, contractor and manufacturer, offering complete development, operations and financial services.
