MORRISON KNUDSEN TEAM TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A COMMUTER RAIL LINE AND SUBWAY SYSTEM IN ARGENTINA

BOISE, Idaho, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corp. (MK) (NYSE: MRN) announced today that a consortium in which MK is a key U.S. partner has received a contract from the Argentine government to operate and maintain a commuter rail line and the subway system serving Buenos Aires.
Terms of the contract include a 20-year franchise to provide operations, maintenance and capital investments on the Urquiza commuter line and the subway system -- consisting of five subway lines and a small commuter feeder line. The consortium, known as Metrovias, is expected to take over operation of the lines at the start of 1994.
William J. Agee, MK chairman and chief executive officer, said MK's role in the consortium consists of maintenance of rolling stock, management of rolling stock acquisition and overhaul programs and participation in the management and business development of the consortium.
"With the award of this contract, the government of Argentina has shown long-term confidence in MK and our partners," said Agee. "MK has a long history of proven success in railroad and transit industries and we will use this experience to provide commuters in the Buenos Aires region with efficient and comfortable transportation."
In addition to MK, the consortium consists of Fort Worth, Texas-based Burlington Northern Railroad and two Argentinean firms, Benito Roggio, a large construction company based in Cordoba, and Cometrans, an association of the 30 largest independent bus companies in Buenos Aires.
MK's rail operations in Argentina also include joint ownership with Cometrans and Idesa -- an Argentine engineering firm -- of a 500,000-square-foot overhaul and maintenance facility in Buenos Aires. Known as the San Martin Complex, the facility presently employs 215 workers. The San Martin Complex could be used to service rolling stock from the rail lines and subway system being operated by the consortium.
Morrison Knudsen Corp. serves the world's construction, transportation, construction, environmental, industrial and power markets as an engineer, contractor and manufacturer, offering complete development, operations and financial services.
