MORRISON KNUDSEN AND GE AWARDED FLUE GAS DESULFURIZATION CONTRACT

BOISE, Idaho, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corporation (MK) (NYSE: MRN) and GE Environmental Systems (GEESI) have been awarded a contract from the Dakota Gasification Company for the design, engineering, and construction of a flue gas desulfurization (FGD) facility, MK announced today. This MK and GEESI consortium will design and build the facility at the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah, North Dakota, at a cost of $60 million.
"This important project, which will be executed by MK and GEESI, will bring significant technological innovation to the power and clean air market," said William J. Agee, MK chairman, president and chief executive officer.
The project will include the installation of the GE-developed Ammonium Sulfate Forced Oxidation (ASFO) FGD system. The facility will be the first in the U.S. to use ASFO technology, a process in which sulfur dioxide is removed from flue gas and ammonium sulfate is produced as a by-product. Engineering will start immediately and the facility is scheduled for completion in early 1997.
Morrison Knudsen Corporation serves the world power, construction, transportation, environmental, and industrial markets as an engineer, contractor and manufacturer, offering complete development, operations and financial services.
