MORRISON, BROWN, ARGIZ & COMPANY, CPAs ESTABLISHES ERISA DIVISION
 FOR EMPLOYEE BENEFIT PLAN ADMINISTRATORS
MIAMI, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrision, Brown, Argiz & Company, CPAs, has established an ERISA Division to work with administrators of employee benefit plans that are subject to the reporting requirements of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
The division will be headed by partner Rick Covert, CPA, who served on the Employee Benefit Plans Committee of the America Institute of CPAs (AICPA) in 1990 and 1991. As part of the committee, Covert helped revise the AICPA Guide for Audits of Employees Benefit Plans.
"Benefit plans are facing much closer scrutiny from government authorities today," said Covert. "The annual audited financial statements will continue to be an important part of the plans' compliance with regulatory requirements."
ERISA was passed in 1974, in order to protect the interests of workers who participate in employee benefit plans and their beneficiaries. The act requires financial reporting to government agencies and disclosure to participants and beneficiaries, by establishing standards of conduct for plan administrators and by providing appropriate remedies and sanctions, as well as access to the federal courts.
"ERISA is a highly specialized field that requires a thorough understanding of the act and its revisions," Covert said. "The ERISA division will allow us to focus our efforts and activities, and work directly with plan administrators, attorneys and financial institutions."
