Boxing show to benefit Shampang

Oakway Fitness Center, Hardknox Gym and Peabody's Pub are presenting an amateur boxing competition Saturday as a fundraiser for Linda Shampang, the Leaburg boxer who was injured in her first professional bout.

Shampang, who suffered a brain injury June 16 at Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort in Canyonville, will be the guest of honor at the event, which will be held in an outdoor ring at Peabody's Pub, 444 E. Third St., in Eugene.

Fights begin at 5 p.m., and gates open at 3 p.m. Ringside seating is $20, reserved seating is $15 and general admission is $10. Tickets are available at Peabody's Pub and Oakway Fitness Center, 170 Oakway Road.

Pro lacrosse team will hold tryouts

The Portland LumberJax, the newest entry in the National Lacrosse League, are holding tryouts Oct. 22 in Portland.

Individual session times will be determined. Potential players are directed to the team's Web site (www.PortlandJax.com) for registration and additional information.
