NCC loses to Linn-Benton in volleyball sweep

The Northwest Christian College volleyball team was swept in three games by Linn-Benton on Wednesday, falling 30-19, 30-21, 30-18 at the Morse Event Center.

Shauna Robinson had 10 kills and five digs to lead the Beacons. Krissy Cain-Hill added seven kills and five digs, while Brie Schwanick had six kills and three blocks.

UO golfer in PGA's Canadian Open field

Jay Snyder, a junior on the University of Oregon golf team, will tee it up with the big boys today in the first round of the PGA Tour's Canadian Open in Vancouver, B.C.

Snyder qualified for the tournament by advancing to the final of the Canadian Amateur Championship last month. He lost the title match but gets to play a PGA Tour event on his home course, the 6,946-yard Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club.

Snyder will start from the 10th tee at 1:22 p.m. PDT today in a grouping with Mark Wilson and James McLean.

The tournament, broadcast live today at noon on ESPN, was won last year by Vijay Singh.

Pilots' Sinclair named player of the week

Senior forward Christine Sinclair of the Portland women's soccer team was named national player of the week after scoring eight goals in three games last week, including five in a win over Oregon, the Pilots announced Wednesday.

Sinclair was named player of the week by Soccer Buzz, Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer. Besides setting a Pape Field scoring record in the win over the Ducks, she helped Portland beat San Diego State and Pacific at the Husky/Nike Invitational last week.
