MORE FOOD, FLIGHTS AND FUN: UNITED AIRLINES EXPANDS MCDONALD'S FRIENDLY SKIES MEAL SERVICE TO MOST U.S. FLIGHTS

CHICAGO, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Where can kids get a McDonald's meal while flying at 35,000 feet? On United Airlines. United today announced that the McDonald's Friendly Skies Meals it introduced on selected flights in 1991 now will be served in much more of the Friendly Skies.
Beginning today, these special meals will be available on more than 80 percent of United's flights departing within the United States that offer an inflight meal.
"After seeing the excitement generated by McDonald's Friendly Skies Meals among our younger customers, we're delighted to be able to offer these meals throughout the United States," said Adam Aron, United senior vice president-marketing.
First offered on United's meal and snack flights to and from Orlando, then expanded last year to flights departing from Chicago, Friendly Skies Meals now are available in 21 United cities across the country.
Friendly Skies Meals are designed with children and adults in mind. Packed in colorful boxes and decorated with puzzles and games, they keep young air travelers entertained well beyond meal time, giving parents an opportunity to relax and enjoy their flight. The meals include a special toy, featuring McDonaldland characters and an airline theme, and food items appropriate to the time of day, including:
-- Breakfast: Hot-breakfast flights feature a McDonald's sausage biscuit, applesauce, McDonaldland cookies and McDonald's low-fat milk.
Cold-breakfast flights feature fruit, a muffin, McDonaldland cookies and McDonald's low-fat milk.
-- Lunch/Dinner: A McDonald's cheeseburger (on some flights, a chicken fajita or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich), applesauce, raisins, McDonaldland cookies and McDonald's low-fat milk.
Since it introduced Friendly Skies Meals, United has served more than 350,000 of them inflight. Customers can order the meals when making flight reservations or up to six hours before flight departure.
Friendly Skies Meals are available on United's breakfast, lunch and dinner flights originating in these cities: Baltimore; Boston; Chicago; Dallas/Ft. Worth; Denver; Detroit; Hartford; Los Angeles; Miami; Newark; New Orleans; New York (LaGuardia and Kennedy); Oakland; Orlando; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Portland, Maine; San Diego; San Francisco; Seattle and Washington, D.C.
