MONY ELECTS ROTH CHAIRMAN

 NEW YORK, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Mutual of New York (MONY) has elected Michael I. Roth, 47, to the post chairman, effective July 1, to succeed James B. Farley, 62, who will remain on the MONY board of trustees, it was announced today. Roth will also continue to hold the titles of president and chief executive officer.
 At its meeting to elect Roth, the MONY board of trustees formally commended Farley for his outstanding service and leadership of the company.
 Roth joined MONY in March 1989 as executive vice president and chief financial officer. He was elected MONY's president and chief operating officer in January 1991, and chief executive officer in January 1993.
 From 1982 to 1988, Roth was with Primerica Corp., most recently as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Primerica, Roth was a partner with the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand in Stamford, Conn. A 1967 graduate of the City College of New York, Roth holds a J.D. from Boston University Law School and an L.L.M. from New York University Law School.
 Farley was named president and chief operating officer of MONY in 1988, and chairman and chief executive officer in 1989. Farley was chairman until 1985 and then senior chairman of the board of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, the international consulting firm, before joining MONY in 1988.
 The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York -- a 150-year-old mutual life insurance company which sold the nation's first mutual life insurance policy -- provides life insurance, disability income, and annuities to individual clients and businesses, as well as full-service pension plans and investment management services to corporations and non-profit organizations. MONY has consolidated assets of $18.7 billion.
