MONTROSE/CDT GRANTED ISO 9001 CERTIFICATION FOR HIGH SPEED DATA CABLE MANUFACTURING

AUBURN, Mass., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Montrose, a manufacturer of OEM and network cabling and a division of Cable Design Technologies, has received ISO 9001 certification after successfully completing a stringent review of its quality control processes, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Joseph G. Merkwaz.
Merkwaz stated that the ISO 9001 certification enables Montrose/CDT to become a significant supplier of high speed, high performance data communication cables to the North American, European and PacRim markets. "By achieving this certification, we've made a global commitment to quality," said Merkwaz. "In fact, we selected a European-based certification firm to demonstrate our desire to meet -- and exceed -- the requirements of the European Community for high quality datacom cabling." Merkwaz added that Montrose was the second CDT company to obtain ISO certification, following Mohawk, a manufacturer of fiberoptics and premise networking cable located in Leominster, Mass.
ISO 9000 is actually a set of five standards designed to ensure certain quality control processes within a manufacturing company. Designated 9000 through 9004, each of the five levels features review requirements that become increasingly difficult to meet.
Montrose/CDT received its ISO certification through the North American office of the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). According to Merkwaz, Montrose/CDT selected NSAI because Ireland, as a member of the EC, is participating in developing the standards and certification of products being accepted by the European Community countries after the removal of trade barriers. NSAI staff are directly involved in the standards recommendations embodied in ISO 9000, which European companies are increasingly using as part of their guidelines for selecting suppliers. "Any company that wants to do significant business overseas has to be able to demonstrate that its products meet certain quality process standards," commented Merkwaz. "At Montrose/CDT, we believe the best way to do that is with ISO certification."
Merkwaz added that many U.S. companies such as Montrose customers IBM, Hewlett Packard, and 3M are also now requiring ISO certification as a prerequisite for being a supplier.
Among the products Montrose/CDT designs and manufactures high speed miniature coaxial cables, reduced-size bus and tag cabling, PCMICA cabling for notebook computers, flat ribbon and SCSI cabling for device interconnection, and IEEE 1284 cabling to meet the new standards for printer interfaces. Montrose/CDT has also recently developed a proprietary dielectric technology called CellTec(TM) that increases the speed and signal stability of its cable products.
