MONTEREY PASTA COMPANY ANNOUNCES FUTURE OPENINGS IN DALLAS, TEXAS

 DANVILLE, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Monterey Pasta Company (NASDAQ: PSTA), a popular gourmet pasta manufacturer and restarant operator announced today that it has signed letters of intent for three new restaurant locations in the greater Dallas metropolitan area. These restaurants are expected to open in the third quarter of 1994. The restaurants will be located in major regional shopping centers including Hulen Mall, Valley View Center, and Town East Mall. "Texas will be a very strong market for the Monterey Pasta Company," stated Lance Mortensen, CEO of the Company. "These three locations follow our philosophy of choosing sites in major, urban and suburban areas where there is access to high population density, shoppers and tourists, and a close proximity to business people. Our expansion in the Texas market is consistent with our expansion strategy of aggressively penetrating local markets." The Dallas area is one of the largest fresh pasta markets in the United States. Monterey Pasta Company's development plan calls for the expected opening of approximately 25 quick-serve gourmet pasta restaurants by 1997 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
 Monterey Pasta Company offers an unusual variety of flavors and natural ingredients such as Snow Crab Ravioli, Sweet Red Pepper Fettuccini, Smoked Salmon Ravioli, Sundried Tomato Cream Sauce, Gorgonzola/Roasted Walnut Ravioli, and Monterey Clam and Mushroom Sauce.
 Mortensen also announced that the Company has hired the food brokerage firm of Brown, Moore & Flint to facilitate distribution of its fresh pasta and sauces to grocery and club stores. Brown, Moore & Flint is one of the largest brokers in the state of Texas. "We hope to have our all-natural fresh pasta and sauces available in most major grocery chains in Texas this year," stated Mortensen.
 Monterey Pasta Company is a Northern California-based company which manufactures and distributes a premium line of fresh and all-natural refrigerated pasta and sauces to grocery and club stores throughout the Western United States. The Company also operates quick service gourmet pasta restaurants under the name Monterey Pasta Company which are located in major upscale shopping and financial centers. The Company's restaurants, which average 1,500 square feet, serve a complete meal with pasta, caesar salad, and bread for under $5. Pasta and sauce selections are rotated weekly among the Company's products.
 The expansion of Monterey Pasta Company's restaurants began in August 1993. At the end of 1993 the Company had opened five restaurants. The Company is currently developing restaurants in California, Colorado, Washington and Texas, and expects to open at least fifty in the Western U.S. during 1994.
