MONTEREY MUSHROOMS TIPS ITS CAP TO SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Monterey Mushrooms (MMI) continues its commitment to growth -- and not just in mushrooms. Over the last two years, Monterey's new scholarship program, aimed at helping the children of hourly and salaried employees achieve their educational dreams, has awarded over $35,000 in educational scholarships.
In 1993, "We added another annual scholarship, thus awarded $20,000 to nine hard-working students. This program is designed to provide excellence in education and success!" reports Jo Shelden, MMI director of human resources.
These renewable monetary scholarships can be applied toward tuition, books and college-related fees at accredited two- and four-year colleges, universities and vocational/technical schools. All awards are based on past scholastic performance, financial need and future potential, as well as unusual circumstances.
Monterey Mushrooms' scholarship program is the fulfillment of a personal goal of Shah Kazemi, president, and reflects his vision for Monterey's future. "Monterey's scholarship program enables us to help assist the achievement of educational opportunities of the children of our employees," said Kazemi, "and we're particularly proud to be able to offer it."
Monterey's Scholarship Committee received about 25 applications this year. This year's nine scholarship recipients come from the various Monterey Mushrooms' operations located throughout the United States, and are representative of Monterey's diverse employee organization. They are as follows:
