The Highway Rat BBC1, 4.45pm What would Christmas telly be without a lavish animation to brighten up the schedules? Nowhere, we reckon. This year's focuses on the titular character, a ravenous rodent that craves buns, biscuits and all sweet things. As he tears along the highway on the lookout for sugary treats to steal, his sweet tooth leads him toward a sticky end. Rob Brydon narrates the lively comedy, which is based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, while David Tennant, Nina Sosanya, Tom Hollander and Frances de la Tour are among the vocal talent.
