MOLTEN METAL TECHNOLOGY, INC. ANNOUNCES BOARD APPOINTMENT
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Molten Metal Technology, Inc., is pleased to announce that Robert A. Swanson has joined its board of directors. The founder and current chairman of the board of Genentech, Inc., Swanson will provide Molten Metal Technology with experience and insight for strategically managing the growth of a successful start-up company.
Under Swanson's leadership, Genentech pioneered biotechnology, virtually creating the foundations of the industry. Molten Metal Technology is seeking to create a high tech environmental industry by commercializing a breakthrough technology called Catalytic Extraction Processing (CEP). CEP makes valuable products from wastes while assuring the highest possible level of hazardous material conversion. Even from intractable wastes like PCBs and incinerator ash, CEP recovers metal alloys, industrial gases, and commodity inorganics. In contrast, other environmental practices -- such as incineration and landfilling -- simply transform waste from one waste form to another, typically yielding undesirable residuals such as air pollutants, wastewater, and ash.
William M. Haney III, Molten Metal Technology's chief executive officer, says of Swanson's potential to contribute to Molten Metal Technology's success: "Swanson is a visionary and gifted leader with a proven track record of successfully managing the growth of technology-driven start-ups in dynamic industries."
Molten Metal Technology is well positioned to address the needs of both waste generators and waste processors. The firm has received a multi-million dollar equity investment from Travelers Insurance. In addition, Molten Metal Technology has signed joint development and marketing agreements with DuPont, the $38 billion leader in environmental protection in the chemical industry, L'AIR Liquide, the $6 billion Paris-based industrial gas firm, Rollins Environmental Services, the $250 million U.S. leader in thermal destruction of hazardous wastes, and American Reinsurance, the U.S.'s most innovative environmental reinsurer.
