MOJAVE AMENDS ITS NORTHWARD EXPANSION APPLICATION AT FERC

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Citing the need to "update and streamline" its Northward Expansion proposal, Mojave Pipeline Company today filed an amendment to its March 17, 1993, certificate application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Mojave's application seeks authority to expand its existing 400 MMcf/d capacity pipeline by 475 MMcf/d, and extend it from Bakersfield to Sacramento and the East Bay region. Mojave's extended pipeline would for the first time in history provide California natural gas consumers a choice when selecting natural gas transportation service.
The amendment shows minor facility and tariff modifications to conform the project to the stated needs of its customers, streamlines the design to reduce environmental consequences and reports updated data demonstrating that the project's benefits to Mojave's customers and to all Central and Northern California ratepayers have been enhanced.
"Our capacity is unchanged at 475 MMcf/d, our capital cost has changed by only a minor amount and our rate is still 47 cents," said Mike Holland, president and CEO of Mojave. Characterizing the amendment as simply a "tuneup" of the project design, Holland stated, "Our intent here is to have in front of the FERC the precise project our customers want us to build, as deliberations on our certificate application begin."
FERC will hold a one day public conference on Mojave's proposed expansion Dec. 16 in Washington, D.C. The goal of the conference is to examine certain public policy issues relating to Mojave's proposal and provide an opportunity for all interested parties to directly address the commission.
