MODEL TECHNOLOGY AND ORCAD TEAM UP TO OFFER VHDL SOLUTION FOR FPGAs AND CPLDs

BEAVERTON, Ore., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Model Technology Inc. and OrCAD today announced a joint agreement that enables OrCAD to OEM Model Technology's VHDL simulator for Microsoft Windows. OrCAD will market and ship the product through its distribution channel and provide product support.
"We have made a public commitment to providing solutions for designing field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs)," stated Mike Bosworth, OrCAD's president and chief executive officer. "This, however, is the first announcement we've made to show our total commitment to VHDL for this market. We believe that VHDL is clearly the language of choice. We chose Model Technology to team with because they are clearly recognized as the leader in VHDL simulation for the PC environment. We know that by incorporating their technology into our simulator offering we will be providing our customers with a superior product. This will also be our first MS Windows offering."
"As the largest EDA supplier to users of PCs, OrCAD is better positioned than any company to see that VHDL has emerged as the preferred design language on the PC," said Robert Hunter, president of Model Technology. "We are excited about joining OrCAD to extend the reach of the industry's best-selling VHDL simulator for PCs to the thousands of committed OrCAD users worldwide."
Model Technology offers the industry's only fully compliant VHDL simulator available on the PC. Other simulators running on PCs fail to support the entire language as specified by the IEEE Standard 1076. In addition, the Model Technology product for Windows is distinguished by leading performance and functionality. It incorporates the company's Direct Compile technology, enabling the simulator to compile and simulate VHDL designs much faster than other PC-based simulators.
Model Technology's simulator also features interactive, easy-to-use source-level debugging. The simulator's eight dynamically linked debugging windows allow multiple views into the design, including a display of VHDL signals as familiar waveforms.
The OEM agreement signed by the two companies has a two-year duration. Initially OrCAD will provide the Model Technology simulator, as is, through its distribution channel. OrCAD will also provide all the documentation and support. The product should be ready for shipment by the end of January.
Model Technology Inc. is a supplier of low-cost, high-performance VHDL simulation software for MS Windows PCs and UNIX workstations. With more than 2,000 installed copies worldwide, the company's V-System product is the most popular VHDL simulator available and the only fully 1076-compliant VHDL simulator running on PCs and workstations. Model Technology is a profitable, privately held company founded in May 1990. It has headquarters in Beaverton, and 17 sales distribution offices in the United States, Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim.
OrCAD's line of EDA tools provides a complete design solution for printed circuit boards, field programmable gate arrays and programmable logic devices from schematic capture and logic design synthesis, through simulation, to printed circuit board layout. The company targets the PC environment, and its DOS products have achieved an installed base of more than 76,000, the largest in the industry. OrCAD has an Associates Program in place that is made up of a group of more than 50 companies. The goal of the program is to offer products that will broaden OrCAD's product line and provide a more complete solution for the customer. Recently, OrCAD announced a Marketing Alliance for Productive Solutions (MAPS) program that offers complimentary products through the OrCAD reseller channel so that customers can order a total solution from the same source. The company's U.S. operations are located in Beaverton, and its European operations in Paris. OrCAD distributes its products through a world-wide network of resellers.
