MOBIL WINS MMS CARE AWARD

 MOBIL WINS MMS CARE AWARD
 DALLAS, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Exploration & Producing U.S.

Inc. (MEPUS) has been awarded the Interior Department's 1992 Conservation Award for Respecting the Environment (CARE). J. Kenneth Adams, Regional Supervisor for Leasing and Environment, Minerals Management Service (MMS), presented the award to James Abercrombie, MEPUS Western Gulf/Mobile Bay producing manager, during the Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 141 held August 19 in New Orleans.
Mobil's coastal and offshore petroleum operations and conservation activities in Louisiana, Alabama and Texas were responsible for 22 separate CARE Award nominations from various government, industry, academic, environmental and private citizen sources.
In presenting the CARE Award, the MMS cited Mobil's ongoing conservation and environmental efforts in and along the Gulf of Mexico. Among specific accomplishments mentioned were achieving National Marine Sanctuary status for the Flower Garden Banks, making Mobil offshore platforms available for independent environmental and fisheries research, replacing sand on an eroding beach adjacent to its operations, and supporting and participating in the Gulfwide Beach Cleanup Program.
"Mobil's management and employees working in the Gulf of Mexico region are being commended for years of cooperation and support of offshore environmental research projects, an exemplary record for operational safety, and many special initiatives to enhance, conserve and protect natural and recreational resources onshore," said Adams. "Mobil has become a respected corporate leader and welcome neighbor because of, and not in spite of, their effects on the environment in the Gulf region."
Charlie Spruell, MEPUS president, said, "Mobil is genuinely honored to be recognized as the 1992 winner of the CARE Award. I take special pride in the fact this award is not being presented as a result of a single accomplishment, but for a consistent, broad-based commitment to work with our neighbors in finding innovative ways to help make things better."
Established by the MMS in 1987, the CARE Award Program recognizes outstanding environmental accomplishments by companies involved in offshore natural gas, oil and sulphur operations in the Gulf of Mexico.
