MOBIL TORRANCE REFINERY RECEIVES FIRST PLACE
 OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AWARD
TORRANCE, Calif., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Mobil Torrance Refinery is the recipient of the 1992 First Place Occupational Safety Award presented by the Safety Center, California's largest chapter of the National Safety Council.
The Refinery received the award for the best safety performance among all California manufacturing facilities working more than one million manhours a year, at a ceremony held in Sacramento, June 25, 1992.
"We are extremely pleased to be recognized for our accomplishments in safety performance," said Refinery Manager Joel Maness. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Team Torrance we are seeing outstanding results in all areas of operation."
In addition to receiving the First Place award, the refinery was honored with the Safety Center's Most Improved Occupational Safety Award among California manufacturing facilities working more than million manhours a year.
In June, the refinery received national recognition for its safety performance from the National Petroleum Refiners Association. The refinery received two awards from the Association: The Gold Award, awarded for a significant reduction in total recordable worker injuries; and the Safety Achievement Award, awarded for more than 1.3 million consecutive hours worked without a lost workday injury.
The Safety Center has been recognizing businesses, industries, and individual safety professional in California for outstanding performance since 1934. The awards program is designed to recognize companies and individuals who make their work environments and communities safer places to work and play. Every award winner has accident rates lower than the national average.
