MOBIL TO BUILD TWO NEW PIPELINES AT ITS HOUSTON OLEFINS PLANT
FAIRFAX, Va., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Chemical Company said today it will build two product pipelines -- one for propylene and one for ethylene -- at its Houston olefins plant to improve product sales and distribution opportunities.
Construction will begin immediately and should be completed by the end of 1993.
The new propylene line will deliver product from Mobil's plant on LaPorte Freeway to customers along the Houston ship channel. The ethylene line will tie into the existing Mobil ethylene pipeline system at LaPorte.
Construction of the pipelines will improve product distribution and sales flexibility, Mobil said. Propylene from the Houston plant currently is shipped by truck, which limits sales opportunities since many potential customers are equipped to receive only pipeline deliveries.
The Houston olefins plant produces 550 million pounds of ethylene and 190 million pounds of propylene annually. They are basic petrochemicals used as feedstocks for other products, including polyethylene and polypropylene resins used in a variety of plastic products.
Mobil Chemical Company is a unit of Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB).
