MOBIL SIGNS PRELIMINARY KAZAKHSTAN EXPLORATION AGREEMENT

 FAIRFAX, Va., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB) confirmed that it is one of six members of an oil industry consortium that signed an agreement with the government of Kazakhstan to participate in developing an exploration program in the Caspian Sea. Mobil is the only U.S. based international company that was asked to participate in the program.
 The exploration program will be carried out through 1996. At completion, each of the participants would be eligible to select two blocks in a location considered to be one of the most prospective exploration areas in the world.
 Mobil Chairman Allen E. Murray said, "The invitation to join the project which could open up a new exploration area recognizes the company's environmental, financial and technical expertise."
 Last year, Mobil conducted exploration and producing activities in 26 countries around the world, produced oil and or natural gas in 14 countries with exploration activities in 20 countries. The company produced 1.6 million barrels of oil equivalent each day.
 A new entity within the Kazakhstan Ministry of Fuels and Energy called KazakhstanCaspiShelf (KCS) has been created to serve as operator of the consortium.
 In addition to Mobil, other members of the consortium are: Shell; Total; British Petroleum/Statoil; British Gas and Agip.
