MOBIL RETURNING TO HOUSTON GASOLINE MARKET THROUGH 90 INDEPENDENT SERVICE STATIONS

FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Corporation will be supplying gasoline and diesel fuel to the Houston area again through 90 service stations owned by Petroleum Wholesale, Inc. (PWI), the two companies said today.
Houston-based PWI, one of the largest independent fuel marketers in Texas, presently sells over 100 million gallons of motor fuels annually through its 90 service stations in the Houston area. PWI's conversion to the Mobil banner will begin this fall.
Mobil left the Houston gasoline market over a year ago when it accepted Shell Oil's offer to buy all of Mobil's service station properties in the Houston area. Its decision to return enables Mobil and PWI to take advantage of Mobil's strong brand recognition and PWI's prime service station locations.
PWI's outlets will be supplied from Mobil's Beaumont, Texas, refinery, the largest in its system, which can produce more than 7,000,000 gallons of gasoline and more than 2,600,000 gallons of diesel and jet fuel daily. A pipeline owned and operated by Mobil will carry petroleum products directly from the refinery to an idled Mobil terminal in northeast Houston which PWI will purchase and reopen.
"PWI is a highly regarded company which runs its service station business extremely well," Steve Pryor, vice president of Mobil's U.S. fuels business, said. "It knows how to serve the customer, its stations are very well situated and it has great prospects for growth."
"It's a perfect fit," said John Cook, president of PWI. "Mobil gives our stations a strong brand identity, quality products and secure supply. In turn, we offer a strong customer base built on quality services and locations in growth areas."
