MOBIL RENEWS COTTON BOWL SPONSORSHIP

DALLAS, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB) has renewed its title sponsorship of the Mobil Cotton Bowl Classic into the 21st Century, the company and the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association (CBAA) announced here today.
"We were delighted to be the first sponsor of the Cotton Bowl, and now even more delighted that Mobil's name will be a part of this great American football classic for the rest of this century and the beginning of the next," said Allen E. Murray, chairman and chief executive officer of Mobil Corporation.
Mobil's title sponsorship under a seven-year agreement with the CBAA began with the l989 game, the 52nd Cotton Bowl. That contract remains in force through the l995 game. The renewal announced today, a five- year pact, starts with the l996 game and carries Mobil's title sponsorship through the game on New Year's in the year 2000.
Saturday's Mobil Cotton Bowl Classic will be televised by NBC. Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 3:40 p.m. CST.
"Our partnership with Mobil has proven to be strong and exciting," said Robert Smith III, president of the CBAA. "The Mobil flying red horse has been identified with the Dallas community even longer than the Cotton Bowl Classic. The Metroplex has brought excellent synergies to the benefit of intercollegiate athletics."
Mr. Murray said Cotton Bowl sponsorship "links Mobil's reputation for excellence with that of the Cotton Bowl in ways that benefit our business, such as in college recruiting and community relations."
Noting that money from the Mobil Cotton Bowl Classic goes to the eight member colleges of the Southwest Conference, Mr. Murray said the contribution to education is especially important to Mobil.
"Additionally, we have more employees in Texas than any other state, so our Cotton Bowl sponsorship simply strengthens and deepens Mobil's ties with the area," Mr. Murray said.
