MOBIL DEALERS REACH OUT TO HELP PHYSICALLY DISABLED CHILDREN
DETROIT, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Oil Corporation and its participating service station dealers in metropolitan Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids will adopt William Beaumont Hospital's Pediatric Rehabilitation Center -- one of the most comprehensive pediatric rehabilitation centers in the Midwest -- as its new "foster" child.
From Sept. 17 until Oct. 3, approximately 150 participating Mobil service stations will donate 2 cents for every gallon of super unleaded gas purchased to Beaumont's Pediatric Rehabilitation Center. Pediatric Rehabilitation Services are funded through Children's Miracle Network (CMN).
Patients of Pediatric Rehabilitation receive individual and group assistance from on-staff therapists. Through team approach, the medical specialists tailor programs to meet the specific needs of an infant, child or teen-aged patient due to birth defects, injury or illness. The pediatric rehabilitation treats children with head injuries, cerebral palsy, torticollis (wry neck), brachial plexus palsy (Erb's), spinal cord injuries, amputations, muscular dystrophy, neuropathy, sports injuries and arthritis.
"This is an opportunity for our Mobil dealers to visibly support their community and say thank you to their customers for their support," said Barry Bierenbaum of Mobil Oil. "And this program is designed to make it easy for our customers to make a difference in the lives of children in our community."
"Children's Miracle Network and William Beaumont Hospital are excited about joining forces with Mobil Oil Corporation and its service station dealers to help children fight and win battles against life- threatening illnesses and injuries. We know that Mobil cares about kids. They are being strong for our children by giving back a loving heart, a helping hand and most importantly, a chance for life," stated Vera Stojanovic, director of Children's Miracle Network.
Children's Miracle Network was founded in 1983 to raise funds and awareness for hospitalized children. Currently, 163 hospitals throughout North America participate in CMN. William Beaumont Hospital's Pediatric Services has been the official local affiliate of CMN since 1988. Since its inception, CMN has raised $506 million for hospitals serving children. In 1992, $106 million was raised nationally and $1.879 million in donations and pledges was raised locally to benefit Beaumont's Pediatric Services.
Children's Miracle Network is unique among national charities because 100 percent of the local telethon donations stay in the community to benefit the affiliate CMN hospital.
