MOBIL ANNOUNCES 'SAGE' GAS DELIVERIES BEGIN IN U.K.
MOBIL ANNOUNCES 'SAGE' GAS DELIVERIES BEGIN IN U.K. FAIRFAX, Va., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB)
announced today that the SAGE (Scottish Area Gas Evacuation) plant at St. Fergus has made its first natural gas delivery under contract to British Gas. Sales have also begun direct to the industrial and commercial markets in the United Kingdom through independent gas marketing companies.
Mobil's exploration and producing affiliate in the United Kingdom, Mobil North Sea Ltd., is operator of the SAGE system, which enhances the value of gas produced from several fields in the U.K. sector of the North Sea. SAGE's current deliveries are from the Mobil-operated Beryl field. Deliveries from Beryl are expected to average some 265 million cubic feet of gas per day. When complete by 1994, the SAGE system will have the capacity to handle more than one billion cubic feet of gas a day, about 20 percent of the average daily natural gas requirement in the United Kingdom. The Beryl field, located in Block 9/13 210 miles northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland, was discovered in May 1972. Beryl A, a concrete- base drilling and production platform, began production in 1976. Under the SAGE project, gas that had been reinjected back into the reservoir is being sent by a 210-mile 30-inch pipeline to the gas processing terminal at St. Fergus on the Scottish mainland for sale. Phase B of the SAGE project, currently under construction, will allow processing of gas from the Brae fields, operated by Marathon Oil U.K., Ltd., and gas from third parties, including the Scott field, operated by Amerada Hess Limited. -0- 11/5/92 /CONTACT: John Lord of Mobil, 703-846-2500/ (MOB) CO: Mobil Corporation ST: Virginia IN: OIL SU:
