MK-LED JOINT VENTURE IS APPARENT LOW BIDDER
FOR $50-MILLION-PLUS OCEAN OUTFALL PIPELINE IN SAN DIEGO
BOISE, Idaho, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- William J. Agee, chairman and chief executive officer of Morrison Knudsen Corp. (MK) (NYSE: MRN), announced today that an MK-sponsored joint venture is the apparent low bidder on a $50-million-plus contract to build a wastewater ocean outfall in San Diego.
The joint-venture team of MK, and Manson Construction and Engineering Co. -- known as Point Loma Constructors -- submitted the low bid to the City of San Diego on each of two alternates for the outfall that is part of the San Diego Clean Water Program.
"Challenging marine projects are an MK specialty of long standing," said Agee. "During the last 10 years, we constructed similar outfalls in San Francisco and Santa Cruz and our experience on those projects helped us win the San Diego job."
Depending on the length of the outfall selected by the city, the contract value will be either $54.8 million or $57.1 million.
Under a separate contract, MK and Manson presently are engaged in an emergency project off Point Loma to repair a ruptured outfall that is releasing treated wastewater each day into the ocean about three- quarters of a mile off shore.
The new outfall, a 12-foot-diameter line, will be constructed on the seafloor some 2-1/2 miles out into the Pacific Ocean off Point Loma in San Diego. The outfall will disperse treated wastewater into the ocean at a depth of 400 feet.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early April and will take two years to complete.
