MK SELECTED AS PROGRAM MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT ON $17-BILLION HIGH-SPEED-RAIL SYSTEM IN TAIWAN

 BOISE, Idaho, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corp. (MK) (NYSE: MRN) has been selected to negotiate a contract for program management consultancy services for the Taiwan High Speed Rail Project, a $17-billion(U.S.) development, the company announced today.
 "This selection enhances MK's reputation as an international leader in the high-speed-rail industry," said William J. Agee, MK chairman and chief executive officer. "This is a very exciting project that will link the cities of Taipei and Kaoshiung by means of 200-mph train service by the year 2003."
 Selection of MK was made by the Provisional Engineering Office of High Speed Rail, a division of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of the Republic of China.
 MK will assist the government in several aspects of project development, including: cost and schedule control; quality management; tendering and procurement; design and construction monitoring; personnel training; risk management; project financing; and systems start-up.
 More than half of the 214-mile-long line, which will run along Taiwan's west coast, will be constructed on viaducts and bridges. There will be approximately 21 miles of tunnels and seven stations along the route.
