 MK CONSORTIUM SELECTED FOR $150-MILLION
DESIGN AND BUILD PROJECT FROM GENERAL MOTORS
BOISE, Idaho, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Morrison Knudsen Corp. (NYSE: MRN) (MK) announced today that MK is part of a consortium that has received a letter of intent from General Motors on an approximately $150-million project to design and build truck paint facilities in Moraine, Ohio.
Selection of the consortium of MK and Durr Industries, of Detroit, was made by GM's North American Truck Platforms. The plant will be built at an existing truck assembly facility at Moraine, located near Dayton in Southwestern Ohio. Each participant has a 50-percent interest in the non-sponsored consortium.
"MK has a long history of service to General Motors, primarily as construction manager of new assembly plants and renovation of existing plants," said William J. Agee, MK chairman and chief executive officer. "This design/build contract is a new phase in our relationship with this preeminent client."
The paint facilities will enclose 600,000 square feet of floor space and take some 18 months to construct. MK's role in the consortium will be design and construction of the building and conveyors, and Durr Industries will be responsible for the installation of the paint equipment. Work on the project will begin immediately.
