 MITSUBISHI MOTORS RETAIL SALES REMAIN STRONG;
 ECLIPSE SPORTS COUPE BOASTS STRONGEST SALES IN PAST 10 MONTHS
 CYPRESS, Calif., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) today announced retail sales of 15,649 units, indicating an upward trend in consumer confidence toward MMSA products which was reflected in a 39 percent increase in sales from the company's prior month-end figures.
 Specific model lines such as the Eclipse and 3000GT showed significant strength, surpassing sales levels reached last April and June, respectively. Expo sport wagon, with sales of 1,148 units, achieved its best month since its introduction last summer.
 According to Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales, Mitsubishi made a significant reduction in fleet sales from one year earlier and is concentrating marketing efforts to increase its retail sales, explaining the company's overall sales decline of 32 percent from a year earlier. "In addition to a planned reduction in fleet sales, we've reduced our truck sales marketing support to focus a stronger emphasis on upscale products, which sell in more limited numbers," said Ormes. "We anticipate a steady increase in sales during the coming months among retail consumers."
 Domestically produced products for MMSA attributed to more than 35 percent of the company's monthly sales with the sales-leading Eclipse reading 4,664 units.
 Total passenger car sales reached 14,764 units contributing to total year-to-date vehicle sales of 26,943 units.
 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
