MITSUBISHI MOTORS POSTS SECOND STRONGEST MONTH FOR THE YEAR --
OCTOBER MOMENTUM REFLECTS SUCCESS OF KEY MODELS
CYPRESS, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc (MMSA) today announced total vehicle sales of 18,963 units, with passenger sales reflecting a 19 percent increase over sales during the same period last year and continued momentum in the pace of several of the company's main product lines.
"October sales marked our second strongest month this year," said Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales. "We expect the final quarter to continue with a strong impact from our newly introduced models for '93 such as Mirage and the soon-to-be released luxurious Diamante Wagon."
Eclipse and Galant models held firm as the company's sales leaders, with sales of 4,225 units and 3,476 units, respectively. During October, Eclipse earned additional recognition as the 500,000th vehicle to be built at Mitsubishi's U.S.-assembly plant, Diamond Star-Motors (DSM). Eclipse has been in production at DSM since 1989 and will be joined by the all-new '94 Galant early next year.
Ormes noted that by the end of next year, nearly 60 percent of Mitsubishi's volume will be produced at Illinois-based DSM.
Further supporting the successful sales month was Diamante, which reached 1,609 units and represented a 105 percent sales increase over last month. In addition, other strong sellers included Expo and Expo LRV Sport Wagon, with combined sales reaching 2,899 units and nearly doubling last month's figures.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
