 MITSUBISHI MOTORS PLACES EMPHASIS ON RETAIL SALES;
 CONTINUED STRENGTH SHOWN IN DOMESTICALLY BUILT MODELS
 CYPRESS, Calif., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- While consumer confidence is making a turn back into the automobile arena, Mitsubishi Motor Sales in America Inc. (MMSA) is also making a shift with a stronger emphasis on retail sales and less of a focus on its fleet business. The company reported monthly sales during May of 12,650 units, contributing to its year-to-date sales of 68,187 units.
 "For 1992 we are making a concentrated effort to increase our retail business within this highly competitive market," said Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales. "Our sales have remained consistent across the board, but when you compare our current retail sales to last year's we are clearly moving ahead."
 Strong sellers for Mitsubishi continue to be the domestically produced Eclipse sports coupe and the Galant four-door sedan. Beginning next year, a completely redesigned Galant will join the Eclipse in production at Diamond-Star Motors in Illinois. Current production at Diamond-Star includes the sub-compact Mirage which for the '93 model year will embark with an all-new stylish design in both a two-door coupe and four-door sedan.
 Monthly truck sales for the company were up 20 percent from the same period a year earlier, representing the first truck sale increase since October of last year.
 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc., was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
