 MITSUBISHI MOTORS ENTERS FOURTH QUARTER WITH INCREASED SALES;

INTRODUCTION OF ALL-NEW MIRAGE MODEL COMPLEMENTS OVERALL MOMENTUM
 CYPRESS, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) has entered the fourth quarter of the year with a sales upturn representing a 19 percent increase over the prior month and total vehicle sales of 12,468 units. The company's successful launch of the completely redesigned 1993 Mirage subcompact was one of the highlights of the month, with Mirage two-door Coupe model sales reaching 948 units and surpassing sales of the previous model during the same period a year ago by 66 percent.
 "In light of the continuing challenge that the current automobile retail sales environment presents, we are particularly enthusiastic about seeing the 1993 Mirage play a key role in sustaining our competitive position in the market place," said Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales for MMSA. "While such models as our domestically produced Eclipse remain sales leaders in our product line, the new Mirage is just one more example of Mitsubishi bringing price/value vehicles to market."
 A consistently popular model in the Mitsubishi Motors product line, the Eclipse sports coupe is produced at the company's Diamond- Star assembly plant in Normal, Ill. September sales of Eclipse reached 3,658 units and exceeded last September's volume by 13 percent, while sales of Mitsubishi's flagship 3000GT grand touring sports car also moved up 27 percent with 968 units. Volume of the Expo sport wagon model also delivered an impressive 120 percent increase over the period last year, closing the month with volume of 1,180 units.
 Ormes also noted that another upcoming addition to the Mitsubishi Motors product line is expected to draw additional upscale model sales as the Diamante luxury performance sedan expands with an all- new wagon version. Introduction of the wagon will occur later this winter and will be targeted at affluent couples and families who seek the space of a station wagon without a compromise of the luxury and driving pleasure found in Diamante sedan.
 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
