MITSUBISHI MOTORS' YEAR-TO-DATE TOTAL SALES UP 6 PERCENT; FEBRUARY SALES SHOW CONTINUED INCREASE IN LUXURY PRODUCTS

CYPRESS, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) today announced a 6 percent increase in its year-to-date month-end vehicle sales over the prior year, with units totaling 14,209 for the month of February. The company named its luxury products, 3000GT, Montero and Diamante, as individual models showing significant sales increases during the month.
According to Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales, Mitsubishi's current luxury lease program has proven successful for the company. "Our dealers have enjoyed tremendous sales, specifically with 3000GT, during the duration of this lease program," said Ormes. "With consumers increasingly inclined to shop for the best value in all price segments, our lease program allows those same buyers to step into a luxury car with an affordable monthly payment."
Monthly 3000GT sales reached more than 1,200 units during February, with sales of the company's three luxury products exceeding 30 percent of MMSA's total passenger car sales. Ormes noted that strong luxury car sales are a reflection of Mitsubishi's continuing efforts to successfully market its full line of products under one banner.
Last week the company announced a major restructuring that included the creation of a franchise development department, in an effort to reinforce the strength and profitability of MMSA's dealer network.
The newly created department will focus its efforts on identifying locations for dealerships; developing programs to enhance dealer profitability; stimulating key markets to enhance sales; and developing a Mitsubishi Market Investment Program to provide working capital to qualified dealer applicants, particularly minority candidates.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
