 MITSUBISHI ELECTRONICS INTRODUCES WORLD'S LARGEST
DIRECT VIEW TV FOR THE CONSUMER MARKET
NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc. today introduced the world's first 40-inch direct view television available for purchase. The leader in big screens and home theater, Mitsubishi Electronics continues to provide its customers with the most advanced, innovative and high quality products for home entertainment.
The new model, CS-40FX1, assembled in Braselton, Ga., will be available for purchase in early November with a suggested retail price of $4,999. The CS-40FX1 features big screen impact with direct view performance and provides 768 inches of screen surface, which is 66 percent more picture than 31-inch sets, 119 percent more than a 27-inch model and a remarkable 300 percent larger than a 20-inch television.
"In 1986 we introduced a 35-inch TV that far surpassed the size limits of any direct view television available at that time," said Terry O'Flynn, president, Consumer Electronics Group. "We've continued to lead the industry by introducing the first 50-, 60-, 70- and 120-inch big screen projection televisions and today, we are proud to provide consumers with the ultimate in direct view color television."
The launch of the CS-40FX1 comes in response to increased consumer demand for home theater products and larger screen sizes. According to Electronic Industries Association (EIA) statistics, there has been a steady increase in the sales of larger-size direct view screens over the past several years. Since 1986, approximately 600,000 35-inch televisions have been sold in the United States. Furthermore, sales of 30-inch televisions and larger have more than doubled over the last three years.
Because most big screen televisions will ultimately become part of a home theater, a category developed by Mitsubishi, the CS-40FX1 has been designed to be compatible with all other Mitsubishi home theater components such as A/V receivers, multiple videocassette recorders including Super VHS, external loudspeakers and subwoofer systems. As a stand alone unit, the CS-40FX1 provides outstanding audio performance with built-in twin-speakers, an MTS stereo system and a remote-driven graphic equalizer for convenience. The optional MB-40FX matching base features four built-in speakers and a VCR compartment within its attractive black diamond finish base.
Like many of Mitsubishi's televisions, the CS-40FX1 features ViewPoint(TM), the on-screen operating system that further establishes Mitsubishi's commitment to compatibility, as well as product ease-of-use. ViewPoint uses complete sentences in straight forward English to guide owners through programming, recording, station identification and other operations with ease. The CS-40FX1 also comes with an illuminated programmable remote control.
Other convenience features are picture-in-picture for simultaneous viewing of two video sources and Super Quick View, which allows one-button switching between 10 favorite channels.
The Audio Video Division of the Consumer Electronics Group (CEG) of Mitsubishi Electronics America sells and markets the most comprehensive line of premium quality big screen projection and direct view televisions, home theater components, camcorders and VCRs. The recognized inventor of big screen technology, Mitsubishi develops video products that lead the industry in performance, ease- of-use and system integration.
CEG is located at 5665 Plaza Drive, Cypress, CA 90630.
