MITSUBISHI ELECTRONICS ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

CYPRESS, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc. (MELA), one of the leading marketers of big screen televisions and home entertainment electronics products, today announced that it has revised its business strategy and will not authorize dealer status to new Circuit City stores in certain regions of the United States, in order to concentrate its development of market share through its existing independent dealer network.
"With this move, Mitsubishi Electronics has reaffirmed its dedication to distributing audio/video products through value-added retailers who provide the best service to customers," said Jack Osborn, president, Consumer Electronics Group, Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc. "During our 22-year association with Circuit City, our philosophies have diverged, and as a result, MELA management has made a decision to deny authorized dealer status to Circuit City stores in greater Chicago and the upper Midwest, including Wisconsin and Minnesota. This decision also includes any Circuit City stores opened after June 1, 1993, in New Jersey and New England."
The Consumer Electronics Group (CEG) of Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc. markets and sells a comprehensive line of premium- quality direct view and projection televisions, home theater components and VCRs. The recognized inventor of big screen technology, Mitsubishi develops video products that lead the industry in performance, ease-of-use and system integration.
CEG is located at 5665 Plaza Drive, Cypress, CA 90630.
