 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE SALES SET NEW COMPANY RECORD;
 EMPHASIS ON AMERICAN-BUILT PRODUCTS SEES 16 PERCENT INCREASE
 CYPRESS, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) today announced an all-time monthly sales record for the domestically produced Eclipse sports coupe, contributing to the company's month-end sales of 16,159 units. Total Eclipse sales soared to 8,675 units, representing a 50 percent increase over the same period last year.
 According to Kevin Ormes, vice president of sales, Eclipse holds the best value in the sporty coupe segment. "With consumers starting to re- enter the car market, vehicles like the Eclipse, which offer high value and performance, are exceeding customer expectation levels and setting new standards within their price range."
 Ormes noted that while overall sales for Mitsubishi have been consistently lower for the '92 calendar year, the company has been channeling its resources into higher volume domestically built products such as Eclipse and Mirage. Built at Mitsubishi's Diamond-Star Motors assembly plant in Normal, Ill., Eclipse and Mirage sales totals for April reached more than 9,000 units and represented a 16 percent increase in domestically produced sales for the company from a year earlier.
 Passenger car sales totals for the month reached 14,723 units, contributing to the company's year-to-date total vehicle sales of 55,537 units. Other strong sellers for Mitsubishi during April included Diamante with sales of 1,294 units and Galant with sales of 1,595 units.
 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sport wagons, light trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
