MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE NAMED AMONG TEN BEST NEW CARS
 BY CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE
CYPRESS, Calif., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- New car shopping just got easier. With more than 250 different models of automobiles available to consumers today, Car and Driver magazine has announced that the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX joins an exclusive list of the "Ten Best Cars" sold in America.
"This is the fourth consecutive year that Eclipse GSX has been recognized with this title from Car and Driver magazine and naturally we're thrilled," said Richard D. Recchia, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA). "We know the competition was fierce this year, so we feel particularly honored to be selected among the ten best again."
Car and Driver nominated 38 cars for the 1992 "Ten Best" list, with none priced over $40,000, according to William Jeanes, editor of Car and Driver. This year's line-up marks the tenth year that the magazine has been ranking the best auto choices, with this year's automobiles considered to be the toughest group of competitors tested yet.
"Manufacturers are producing such exceptional automobiles today that, when it came time to select the finalists, it has never been more difficult," said Jeanes. "New car shoppers face the same dilemma; our votes may help individuals make their own best choices."
The editors of Car and Driver spent a one week period testing and evaluating the cars using a combination of quantitative and qualitative ratings. Vehicles were carefully considered for engineering integrity, performance capabilities, value in respective price ranges and in relation to comparable models from other manufacturers.
Eclipse GSX is an aggressively styled sports coupe designed to please the most demanding sports coupe buyer. Performance features include a potent combination of all-wheel drive, a 195 horsepower 2.0 liter dual overhead-cam four cylinder engine, turbocharging, an air-to-air intercooler, four valves per cylinder and multipoint fuel injection. For 1992, a revised exterior is featured with new integrated aero headlamps to minimize wind resistance.
The suggested retail price for Eclipse GSX equipped with a five-speed manual transmission is $18,849. An impressive list of standard features includes four-wheel power disc brakes, four-wheel independent suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars and 205/55R16 Goodyear Eagle GT+4 V-rated high-performance radials mounted on lightweight 16x6-inch aluminum wheels.
Other standard amenities are air conditioning, power windows and door locks, split fold down rear seats, cruise control, tilt wheel and AM/FM stereo cassette with six speakers. Options include anti- lock braking (ABS), graphic equalizer or compact disc audio upgrade and an available four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, compacts, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans, sports wagons, light trucks and sports/utility vehicles.
