MITCHELL REPORTS SEVEN WISE COUNTY COMPLETIONS

 THE WOODLANDS, Texas, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. (NYSE: MND) today announced it has completed five natural gas wells and two oil producers in Wise County, North Texas.
 The largest of the gas completions, the M. W. Dahlin Gas Unit No. 3, tested at a daily rate of 6.1 million cubic feet on a 30/64-inch choke with 1,082 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were between 6,235 feet and 6,420 feet in the Atoka formation of the Boonsville/Bend Conglomerate Field. MEC Development, Ltd., a partnership in which Mitchell is the operator and general partner, holds 97 percent of the working interests in the well.
 The two oil completions were:
 -- The Federal-Gage No. 1, which test-flowed 372 barrels of oil and 2.2 million cubic feet of associated gas per day on a 22/64-inch choke with 905 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were between 6,315 feet and 6,457 feet in the Atoka formation of the Alvord South Field; and
 -- The J. R. Cox "A" No. 1, which tested at a daily rate of 156 barrels of oil and 2.2 million cubic feet of associated gas on a 30/64- inch choke with 520 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were between 4,956 feet and 5,690 feet in the Atoka formation of the Morris/Consolidated Conglomerate Field. MEC Development's interest in the two oil wells is 100 percent.
 The four remaining gas producers, all of which were completed in either the Atoka or Atoka/Caddo formations of the Boonsville/Bend Conglomerate Field, included:
 -- The J. W. Thomas No. 3, which test-flowed 3.2 million cubic feet per day on a 30/64-inch choke with 595 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 4,122 feet and 5,177 feet;
 -- The O. H. McAlister No. 7-C, testing at a daily rate of 2.9 million cubic feet on a 30/64-inch choke with 545 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 5,867 feet and 6,374 feet;
 -- The Marie Waggoner "D" No. 11, which tested at 2.6 million cubic feet per day on a 26/64-inch choke with 647 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 5,441 feet and 6,410 feet; and
 -- The G. Kaker "B" No. 2, which tested at a daily rate of 2.1 million cubic feet on a 32/64-inch choke with 355 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 5,289 feet and 6,076 feet;
 Mitchell Energy holds 100 percent of the working interests in the Thomas and Waggoner wells; the partnership owns 100 percent of the working interests in the McAlister and Kaker producers.
 North Texas, particularly Wise County, has been Mitchell's most prolific producing area for 40 years. The company has drilled more than 3,500 wells in the area and plans to drill another 80 there next year.
