MITCHELL REPORTS FIVE NATURAL GAS COMPLETIONS IN NORTH TEXAS' BARNETT SHALE FORMATION

 THE WOODLANDS, Texas, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. (NYSE: MND) today reported it has completed five natural gas development wells in the Barnett shale formation of the Newark East Field in Wise County, North Texas.
 The largest of the wells, at 5.2 million cubic feet per day, was the Denton Creek Trading No. 1, which was tested on an 18/64-inch choke with 2,515 pounds per square inch (psi) of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were between 7,738 feet and 8,007 feet.
 A second gas producer, the Sewell Ranch, Inc., "B" No. 1, tested at a daily rate of 3.8 million cubic feet on an 18/64-inch choke with 1,825 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were between 6,930 feet and 7,124 feet.
 The three remaining Barnett shale completions were:
 -- The L.B.M. Bryan No. 2-T, testing at 3.5 million cubic feet of gas per day on an 18/64-inch choke with 1,705 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 7,582 feet and 7,834 feet;
 -- The T. W. Perkins No. 5, which tested at a daily rate of 3.3 million cubic feet on an 18/64-inch choke with 1,605 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 6,838 feet and 7,054 feet; and
 -- The O. H. McAlister No. 7-T, which test-flowed 2.4 million cubic feet per day on an 18/64-inch choke with 1,215 psi of flowing tubing pressure from perforations between 7,332 feet and 7,528 feet.
 MEC Development, Ltd., a partnership in which Mitchell is the operator and general partner, holds 100 percent of the working interests in four of the producers and 98 percent of the remaining well.
