MITCHELL COMPLETES NEW MEXICO WILDCAT

 THE WOODLANDS, Texas, Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. today reported a natural gas discovery in Lea County, N.M.
 The Tomahawk "28" Federal Com. No. 1 tested at a daily rate of 3.8 million cubic feet of natural gas and 115 barrels of condensate on a 23/64-inch choke with 1,425 pounds per square inch of flowing tubing pressure. Perforations were made between 13,908 feet and 13,944 feet in the Morrow formation.
 Mitchell is the operator and owns a 56.25 percent working interest in the Tomahawk producer. The remaining interests are owned by Sante Fe Energy Resources (25 percent) and Maralo, Inc. (18.75 percent), both headquartered in Houston.
 The discovery is part of an aggressive acquisition and drilling program Mitchell has pursued in recent years in Lea and Eddy counties. The company currently has more than 90,000 gross acres of leaseholdings in southeastern New Mexico.
 Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. is among the nation's largest independent producers of natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil. The company also is a major real estate developer, primarily in the Houston- Galveston area. Its shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbols MND A and MND B.
